‘Anti-frizz’ hair treatment turns out to be cocaine worth millions

Two major cocaine busts have been made at the airport this weekend

COCAINE worth nearly R4.5-million had been confiscated in two separate incidents at OR Tambo International Airport at the weekend.

On Sunday, SARS Customs inspectors in the detector dog unit intercepted a female passenger from Sao Paolo with 8kg of cocaine in a suitcase estimated at R2.3-million.  The traveller’s luggage was scanned and five handbags lined with secret compartments were found inside one of the two suitcases after the dog reacted positively to the bag.

On Saturday, SARS Customs officials intercepted 7.5kg of cocaine hidden in hair treatment bottles estimated at R2.1-million.  The drugs were found at a courier company outlet at OR Tambo International Airport.

A detector dog identified a consignment from Sao Paolo via Johannesburg to Cape Town that contained six bottles of “anti-frizz hair treatment”. Tests confirmed it to be liquid cocaine with a value of R2 157 750.
