POLICE fired several shots at the car of five fleeing suspects before capturing the men in Van Riebeeck Park on Tuesday.
Housebreaking implements, including two bolt cutters, two pairs of gloves, a screw driver, Okapi knife and some cash were found in the vehicle.
According to Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, Const Brad Goldblatt and Const Amukelani Hlongwane from the Ekurhuleni Trio Task Team were doing patrol duty when they spotted a suspicious Toyota Corolla on the P91 with the five suspects inside. As they tried to stop the car, the driver sped off.

“During the short chase shots were fired at the Corolla, shattering a window and hitting a door frame. None of the suspects were wounded,” said Molokomme.
“They were apprehended on the corner of Bontebok Street and the P91 where they came to a standstill at the traffic light. The suspects refused to get out of the car and were forcefully taken out once backup arrived.”
Norkem Park SAPS was also on the scene as well as MML Security.
“Upon body searching the suspects and their car we found the housebreaking implements,” said Molokomme.
It was later discovered the vehicle had been rented and fitted with false registration plates. The men were from Alexandra and Naturena.
Investigations continue to establish whether the suspects could be linked to other crimes in the area.
