JUST IN: Tembisans show outrage at cop killing

Residents called for an end to police killings.

Tembisans showed up in large numbers today when 30-year-old Joshua Bomba Shongwane appeared in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on charges of escaping from police custody and murder.

Cop killer arrested

The Hawks’ Tactical Operation Management Section (TOMS), in conjunction with the National Investigation Unit (NINU), arrested Bomba who was on the wanted list for the murder of Captain Lamola whom he allegedly shot and killed at the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on October 12.

He was re-arrested on Monday. The Tembisan previously reported that Bomba, who was out on bail on another murder charge, was rearrested for armed robbery. When he was about to appear in court, a scuffle ensued between him and police officers. Bomba allegedly shot and killed the officer before escaping.

Tembisa community members gathered outside the court today, showing placards expressing their anger and frustration at police killings. Residents called for an end to police killings. Bomba’s case was postponed to November 9.

Earlier today he also appeared on other charges, including kidnapping and eight counts of armed robbery with aggravating circumstances.
