WILMA Uys (49), travelling with her 74-year old mother, was robbed while waiting at the traffic light on the corner of Central Avenue and Pretoria Road to turn green.
The incident took place just before 1pm on Thursday.
“I saw two homeless-looking men walking between the cars looking into the windows. Walking from car to car, they walked past my bakkie and then back. One guy went to the back of my bakkie. The canopy was not locked and the other came to my window, which was open half way,” Uys explained.
“He just said, ‘give me your cash’. I gave him all the money in my purse, which was R3 000. The other guy opened the back and took my comforter,” she added.

Uys had placed her purse at the gear lever close to the hand brake. It was visible from the passenger window.
“I was coming back from KFC on Voortrekker Road and was on my way to the Garden Court Hotel to drop off my bed-ridden mother.”
She said the one robber was wearing a cap and a black and red striped t-shirt. She was so shaken she did not notice whether they were carrying weapons or not.
“Everybody just looked at me and no one helped. I was hooting but everyone just carried on like nothing was happening.”
After the incident, Uys dropped off her mother and returned to work. She did not open a case with the police. “I don’t bother calling the police anymore, there’s no point,” said the Birch Acres resident.
“I just want to warn people to be aware at that intersection.”
Uys is a bit shaken but says she’ll be fine with the support from her family.
