A Kaalfontein man, who was apparently planning to buy a motor vehicle, had his plan shattered after he was followed from a bank last Wednesday and robbed of the R30 000 he had withdrawn.
He was robbed by two men, one of whom was armed.
The Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, said it was reported that the victim, who was in the company of two friends, had just withdrawn the money from a bank in Ebony Park and had boarded a taxi to the nearby Kaalfontein.
“As they were walking home, two men approached them from behind. One of the suspects pulled out a firearm. The three men ran in different directions but the suspects had their eyes set on the victim. They seem to know that he had money on him. They fired a shot and the victim fell. They wasted no time as they searched him, taking all of the money. It was during the robbery that the victim recognised one of the suspects as a man who was at the bank earlier. The suspect may have seen him then,” said Capt Matimulane.
The Ivory Park SAPS has cautioned residents to be careful with their money and avoid travelling with large amounts of money.
The SAPS also advised people to carry as little cash as possible. People should consider the convenience of paying accounts electronically.
Residents are also advised to avoid making trips to the bank public knowledge, especially if large sums of cash must be withdrawn.
