Suspected drug dealer nabbed
According to the Ivory Park SAPS commuincation officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, drug usage in Ivory Park is a headache to both the community and the police, and it is, in some cases, responsible for fuelling other forms of crime as addicts have to feed their habits.
Members of the Ivory Park SAPS Crime Prevention Unit, acting on a tip-off from a member of the public, arrested a 30-year-old man for dealing in drugs, on Wednesday last week. He was found in possession of 63 sachets of the drug nyaope, dagga and about R350 in cash.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, drug usage in Ivory Park is a headache to both the community and the police. In some cases, he said, it is responsible for fuelling other forms of crime, as addicts have to feed their habits.
“The drug sachets which he was selling for R30 each on the streets of Ivory Park are valued at almost R2 000. All of the drugs, which include both the dagga and nyaope, and the money, were confiscated. The suspect was expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court this week to face a charge of dealing in drugs,” said Captain Matimulane.
The station commander, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has welcomed this arrest, coming as it does in the middle of the police’s safer festive season operation. The operation, among other things, aims to ensure a stable and peaceful environment for the festive season, increased police visibility and high levels of crime prevention activities.
“We are pleased that our calls for people to join hands with the police are not falling on deaf ears, considering the fact that this suspect may not have been caught had this anonymous informer not come forward with this valuable piece of information,” said Brigadier Ngcobo.
