Nephew recognises uncle’s voice during R10 000 robbery

The suspects also took valuables such as the TV, two cellphones, tablets and DVDs

THE uncle of a house robbery victim is allegedly part of a gang that was arrested for stealing R10 000 cash from him.

According to Kempton SAPS’s Capt Jethro Mtshali, the uncle was one of five men who entered his nephew’s home in Pomona in the early hours of Friday last week.

“On December 16 at about 3am it is alleged that the victim was asleep, along with one other person, in his home when the two heard noises coming from outside,” Mtshali explained.

Within moments the door was forced open and two suspects came in demanding money. They proceeded to raid the home and took valuables such as the TV, two cellphones, tablets and DVDs.

“It was at this moment that one of the suspects shouted at his accomplices to look ‘look out for a brown bag containing money’.”

As fate would have it, the victim was able to recognise the man’s voice as his uncle’s.

The two suspects found the bag, which contained R10 000 in cash.

“The victim reported the crime and alerted the police about recognising his uncle’s voice. The officers traced down the uncle, who pointed out his accomplice to the police and all the stolen valuables were recovered.”

The five suspects, aged between 20 and 45, will appear in court facing house robbery charges.
