Ekurhuleni ANC Chief Whip Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi made a door-to-door visit to the community of Winnie Mandela section.
On January 6 the chief whip, accompanied by Ward 3 Clr Gregory Raymond Malebo, followed up on some of the service delivery projects currently under way in the area.
Media officer in the Office of the Chief Whip, Mr Thabang Mashiyane, said 74-year-old pensioner, Mr Philemon Simelane, expressed his excitement when he got the surprise visit.
Mr Simelane is from Winnie Mandela section in Tembisa. “My shack has been broken into several times and I am always concerned about my safety,” he told Clr Dlabathi.
Mr Mashiyane said the pensioner, who has been living in a shack for more than a decade, told Clr Dlabathi that he’s happy that he will finally get a proper house of his own.
“These visits are part of an ongoing service delivery programme and monitoring which seeks to ensure that the residents of Ekurhuleni receive quality services,” said Clr Dlabathi.
Mr Mashiyane said the City of Ekurhuleni has started with the construction of houses in the area and several of the houses are completed and occupied.
“In our 100-days programme, the ANC-led government handed out 292 houses and more than 700 title deeds to the rightful beneficiaries of Ekurhuleni residents,” said Clr Dlabathi.
“My office is a conscious, mass-based and service-delivery-driven caucus and therefore it is very important that all ward councillors are accessible to the residents at all times.”
Mr Mashiyane said during the visit Clr Dlabathi encouraged the residents to attend community meetings summoned by the ward councillors and to always report service-delivery-related matters to their relevant ward councillors at all times.
