The Ivory Park police are urgently appealing for information from the public before other schools in the area suffer similar damage, as the future of children attending these schools could be adversely affected.
“These robbers must be brought to justice soon, and we request the public to assist us in this regard. From our side we are doing anything possible to find and arrest these people,” said the Ivory Park SAPS station commander, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo.
According to Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, in the latest robbery case at Umqhele, two guards were tied up with wires by the robbers who left them to their own devices in the school’s toilets. The suspects then went on to break into the principal’s and administration offices.
“They took five laptops, curtains, a hard drive and two television monitors. Entry into the offices was gained via the roof, where an enormous amount of damage was also caused. In all three of the robberies in Umqhele, Twelopele Secondary and Bonwelong Primary Schools, laptops and hard drives were targeted. The security guards were tied up and violently dealt with.
“Valuable information has been lost in the process,” said Capt Matimulane.
