Off-duty officer tries to foil hijacking

"They robbed him of his charcoal-coloured VW Polo."

A man was robbed of his car while stopped in his driveway.

Constable Patricia Mgijima said on January 1 the 44-year-old man was ordered out of his car by two armed men who pointed firearms at him.

“They robbed him of his charcoal-coloured VW Polo. While the incident took place, an off duty police captain noticed the commotion and he came out. He fired five shots,” said Const Mgijima.

“The suspects retaliated and fired two shots but missed. The suspects fled in the Polo.”

Const Mgijima said the car was later found abandoned in Sethoga Section, Tembisa.

She said a case of carjacking and attempted murder was opened at the Norkem Park SAPS.
