The Ivory Park SAPS made the shocking discovery of two fetuses on Tuesday last week.
The discovery was made in Kaalfontein Extension One and resulted in the arrest of a 28-year-old woman in connection with one of the fetuses.
According to Ivory Park SAPS communications officer Captain Bernard Matimulane, police offices on patrol were alerted to a foetus in a nearby open space and while they were attending to the scene, they were alerted to the discovery of another foetus, which was about 100 metres from the first one.
“Owing to observant members of the public, the police were able to arrest a 28-year-old woman who is a tenant nearby after she was allegedly seen throwing away a bucket with copious amount of blood in it. The elderly women of the area confronted the woman. The woman told the police that it was her who threw the bucket containing blood and the foetus,” said Capt Matimulane.
The suspect was arrested and charged with concealment of birth.
“In the meantime the police are appealing to the residents with information about the other fetus to come forward,” said Capt Matimulane.
The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo has welcomed the community’s vigilance in this matter, which assisted in effecting a speedy arrest.
He also welcomed the fact that despite the community’s anger, no one was injured or assaulted.
