Tswelopele Section security guard held-up, robbed at gunpoint

"As the guard was pushing the trolley towards the security van, he heard a firearm being cocked behind his head."

Criminals made away with a substantial amount of cash when they robbed a van collecting money at a mall.

Constable Patricia Mgijima said on January 21, a 45-year-old G4S guard had just collected money from a store at Tembisa Mega Mall, in Tswelopele Section, Ivory Park, when the incident occurred.

“As the guard was pushing the trolley towards the security van, he heard a firearm being cocked behind his head. He noticed seven armed men who overpowered him and took his firearm and the money,” said Const Mgijima.

The guard managed to run to the driver and informed him about the robbery.

“The driver in the van fired three shots towards the suspects and they retaliated by firing four shots back with rifles. The suspects fled in a Nissan X-trail and a VW Polo.”

She said four R5 cartridges and three pistol cartridges were found atg the scene.
