The Ivory Park SAPS believes that one of the two men arrested on Tuesday last week for house robbery and theft may be linked to other crimes in the area.
“This suspicion became more intense after the suspect was linked to a carjacking and kidnapping case that took place in Allandale last week,” said the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane.
“During the latter case, two couples were confronted by a gang of five armed men travelling in a white Toyota Tazz. The men pointed firearms at the victims. The victims were bundled into a car and driven to an isolated spot. Before they could bundle them into the car, the suspects also helped themselves to cash and property belonging to the victims.
“They took the victim’s vehicle and also took items such as a laptop, bags, personal documents, money and clothing. What proved to be the suspect’s undoing was that he forgot his personal phone in the victim’s car,” said Capt Matimulane.
He said the suspect, who is 30 years old, was expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court to face four charges, ranging from kidnapping, carjacking, house robbery and theft.
“Police are planning to oppose bail, considering the serious nature of the charges levelled against him. In the meantime, the search for the other four suspects he was with on the day is ongoing,” said Capt Matimulane.
The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has welcomed this arrest and the continuous development around the suspect.
“We are determined to work hard to ensure that whatever other crimes this suspect may have committed, are unearthed in order to restore justice to the victims,” said Brigadier Mbongeni.
