A local taxi driver was hijacked and robbed of cellular phones and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Constable Patricia Mgijima said on January 19 the 33-year old taxi driver was driving with his friend along Brian Mazibuko Street with five male passengers in the vehicle.
“Two of the passengers grabbed the driver and his friend from behind, while the other three pointed firearms at them. They forced them into the back seat and drove towards Vusumuzi informal settlement,” said Constable Mgijima.
She said on the way the suspects bumped into a white Toyota Quantum. The suspects began shooting at the driver of the Quantam who was following them.
“The suspects drove the victims to the graveyard where the suspects searched them and the car, taking their cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash. The victims were abandoned there,” said Constable Mgijima.
“While the victims were in the process of opening a case at the Tembisa South Police Station, a security guard came in with one of the suspects whom he said he found next to Leralla train station, stripping the same car that was hijacked.”
Constable Mgijima said the suspect was arrested and detained at the Tembisa South SAPS for being in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.
