Grandfather arrested for rape

“She had told the grandmother that there was something bothering her but that she didn't know who to speak to."

On Sunday, January 22, a 60-year-old man was arrested in connection with the rape of his 11-year-old granddaughter.

“She had told the grandmother that there was something bothering her but that she didn’t know who to speak to. It is believed that the incident happened in 2016 during May, when the victim was visiting her grandfather in Tembisa,” said Captain Ralidzhivha.

It is alleged that the grandfather went to the granddaughter’s room during the night, overpowered her and raped her.

“Since last year she was unable to tell anybody about the incident. On Friday she heard one of her peers speaking about their problems.”

She was allegedly encouraged by her peers and told her grandmother.

Captain Ralidzhivha said the police went to trace the suspect and arrested him.

The suspect will appear before the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on a charge of rape.
