Two killed pushing their broken-down car on highway
The three people from the BMW escaped with minor injuries and refused treatment
Two men were killed and another critically injured on Sunday evening at 7.30pm when a BMW rear-ended a bakkie at the N12/R21 split in Boksburg.
Russel Meiring of ER24 said their paramedics, along with various other services, arrived on the scene to find the bakkie lying in the emergency lane of the road while the light motor vehicle was found on the right side of the highway.
Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered the bodies of two men lying on the highway.
“Paramedics found one man had already succumbed to his injuries and he was declared dead on the scene. Paramedics assessed the second man and found his vital signs were rapidly diminishing, having sustained numerous injuries,” Meiring added.
Paramedics immediately began their treatment and initiated numerous advanced life support interventions. Unfortunately, after some time, no vital signs returned and the man was declared dead on the scene.
A third man was found on the scene. He was assessed by paramedics and found to have sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition. Paramedics treated the man and provided him with several advanced life support interventions before he was transported to a nearby provincial hospital for further care.
Meiring said it was understood that the three men had been pushing their bakkie from the fast lane across the highway when they were rear-ended by the car.
The three people from the BMW escaped with minor injuries and refused treatment, Chris Botha of Netcare 911 said.
