Members of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) arrested a man on a charge of rape.
Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha said on the afternoon of January 24, the FCS members went to the spot where a rapist lures women to rape them.
“The FCS members noticed a man and a woman walking together in the open veld. They immediately confronted them. The police officers asked the woman whether she knew the man.”
Captain Ralidzhivha said the woman told the police that she didn’t know him. He had phoned her to meet him so that he could take her to a company for job placement.
“The police arrested the man and detained him at the Ivory Park police cells. On January 25 an identification parade was held at the station. Eight victims were all present. They all positively identified the suspect,” said Captain Ralidzhivha.
The Ekurhuleni Cluster commander General Vincent Leshabane congratulated the members who took the initiative to do surveillance in the area.
“No stone will be left unturned in these cases,” said General Vincent Leshabane.
Captain Ralidzhivha said the suspect will be appearing before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on eight counts of rape and robbery.
