Man arrested for murder of his girlfriend.

A 32-year-old suspect was arrested on February 4 in Mashemong Section for the alleged murder of his girlfriend.

Constable Patricia Mgijima said it is alleged that the suspect, who is a security guard, went to his girlfriend’s place where he assaulted, broke the door and damaged his 29-year-old girlfriend’s cellphone.

“He left after the incident and returned later. It is believed that he then shot the girlfriend 11 times in the upper body. She died instantly.

“The mother of the deceased girlfriend was shot in the stomach and was hospitalised in the Intensive Care Unit,” said Constable Mgijima.

Constable Mgijima said the police were called to the scene and bystanders informed the police that the suspect was in a neighbour’s yard.

“Police found the suspect lying on the ground bleeding. He had shot himself but had survived.

“Police found a 9mm Beretta pistol with one live round of ammunition stuck in the chamber and one empty magazine,” said Constable Mgijima.

“The firearm was found to belonging to a security company. The suspect was arrested and ferried by ambulance to Tembisa Hospital under police guard.”

Constable Mgijima said he will soon appear before the Tembisa Magistrates Court on a charge of murder, attempted murder and malicious injury to property.

On February 7, a family member informed The Tembisan that the mother had died in hospital.

Captain Manyadza Rlidzhivha confirmed that the mother had died on February 6.
