ID fraudster arrested at mall in Birch Acres

The Zimbabwean national, now from Soweto, will face a charge of fraud

A young woman (23) was arrested for fraud at a sports shop in Birch Acres Mall on Wednesday after using a false identity document.

Investigations revealed the ID book the fraudster carried had the same ID number as another person.

Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesman for Norkem Park SAPS, said the arrest was made at the store just after 5pm.

He said the suspect wanted to buy clothing valued at R1 800. The false ID was picked up by staff before the transaction was completed.

“The lawful owner of the ID was contacted and she declared she had never opened an account with the shop and was in possession of her ID book. It was found that both ID books had the same number,” Molokomme said.

The Zimbabwean national, who lives in Soweto, will face a charge of fraud in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court.
