The Family Violence, Child Protection and the Sexual Offences Unit in Ekurhuleni North arrested a 19-year-old woman on January 31 for opening a false case of kidnapping and rape.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the woman who comes from Tswelopele, had apparently spent three days with her boyfriend.
“Realising the parental wrath that ahead, the woman allegedly told a clinic clerk she had visited that she had been raped, hoping that her story will be known by her and the clerk alone. She was referred to the Ivory Park Police Station where she continued to make the same claims of rape.
“Once she had opened a case, police investigations into the circumstances surrounding her rape commenced. During the investigations it emerged that she is a regular at the place where she was allegedly raped,” said Captain Matimulane.
“Not only was she known by the landlady of the person she was visiting, the boyfriend left her alone during the day as he is employed.”
“Confronted with the evidence, the suspect admitted to having concocted her story and admitted to visiting the place at her own volition,” he said.
The Ivory Park station commander, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, issued a stern warning to residents – that they should not open false cases.
