Rhodesfield house robbers get 10 years behind bars

The four broke into the Rhodesfield home on May 23, 2016 and threatened two women with screwdrivers.

FOUR Zimbabwean nationals will spend an effective 10 years in prison for a house robbery in Rhodesfield.

Sibusiso Tshabalala (34), Lindani Sibanda (29), Bheki Ndlovu (35) and David Khumalo (29), all from Bulawayo, were sentenced on January 20 for the crime which they committed in 2016.

According to Kempton police spokesperson, Capt Jethro Mtshali, the four broke into the Rhodesfield home on May 23 where they threatened two women with screwdrivers, before proceeding to ransack the house.

“One of the victims managed to contact a sector vehicle that was nearby in Marauder Street. Serg James Mhlongo and Const Joseph Rabothatha responded to the call and arrived at the scene shortly afterwards,” Mtshali explained.

The accused tried to flee but the officers managed to chase them down and arrest all four of them.

“The trial has been ongoing until the accused were found guilty in January,” said Mtshali. Thank you and well done to the investigating officer who ensured that all the procedures were followed to secure the conviction of the accused.”

He continued: “The station commander of Kempton Park SAPS, Brig Bertha Kgoroba, is proud of the members that were involved in this matter as Rhodesfield is one of the hot spot areas where such crimes are committed and the conviction of the accused will serve as a deterrent to other criminals.”
