A suspected dagga dealer was nabbed in the parking area at Woodbridge Square on Monument Road on Saturday.
Dagga valued at R10 000 was found in the boot of the stolen Mercedes-Benz the man was driving.
Lt Col Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, said members of the metro police’s warrants unit made the arrest around noon.
The vehicle’s registration number, when run, returned positive for a stolen vehicle.
“The metro police received information of the suspicious-looking vehicle and investigated. The outcome of the preliminary investigation revealed firstly, an enquiry docket with a Pretoria West police station case number on the vehicle. Secondly, the vehicle reflected stolen on the system.
“On locating the driver at the centre, officers read the driver his rights and instructed him to remove all his personal belongings as the vehicle was to be impounded for further investigations,” Kgasago said.
“A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered three plastic bags with dagga, one plastic bag with small plastic bags suspected to be used for packaging the dagga and more than R22 000 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from illicit trading in dagga,” Kgasago added.
The 42-year-old male suspect from Tembisa was detained at Kempton Park Police Station on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of dagga. He was expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
