Noisy Rhodesfield neighbours taken to court

The matter first appeared in court on February 7, but was postponed to February 23

A Rhodesfield woman is taking her neighbours to court for causing excessive noise for her and her family.

Linah Mlotshwa (55) has filed a noise complaint against her neighbour who she claims has been making an unbearable amount of noise with their music.

“Every day they play their music extremely loudly, to the point where it’s unbearable. It became even worse over three days this past December, on the 16th, 17th and 18th,” Mlotswa explains.

She says on the 17th it was so bad she had to take the children and leave her house.

“I took my children to the park because we just couldn’t stand the noise.”

The housewife said she has also requested her neighbours several times to keep the noise levels down, but they would only respond by “being rude and refused to turn it down”.

“They just told me to go to my lawyer.”

Mlotshwa, who has been living in Van der Ster Street for the past 10 years with her family, had also been complaining for some time to the Kempton police.

“On various occasions the police came out and spoke to them, but still the noise didn’t stop. On December 27 I once again called the police. When they got here, all they said to me was that I should leave them because ‘they are just enjoying their Christmas’,” Mlotshwa explained.

Eventually, after Kempton’s Station Commander Brig Bertha Kgoroba’s help, she was advised to go lay a complaint at the Kempton Magistrates Court.

“I filled out a noise complaint form and was told to come back for the first court appearance on February 7, which I did.”

The matter was then postponed to February 23 due to Mlotshwa’s neighbour requesting an Afrikaans interpreter.

Mlotshwa and her husband have been so frustrated with this saga that they even put their house up for sale.

“I really hope this case goes well and this will be the end of our troubles.”
