Victims of sexual offences at Tembisa South were honoured with a Valentine’s party on Saturday.
Tembisa South SAPS Communication Officer Captain Neldah Sekgobela said SAPS members brought everything – including clothes, toys, stationery, food and snacks – in order to put smiles on the children’s faces.
“All these victims and the orphans belong to everyone in the community. Each and every one must think as to how we could assist them in order for them to move on with their lives and to make them happy,” said Tembisa South Social Crime Prevention Coordinator, Sergeant Nonjabulo Mogale.
Sergeant Mogale singled out for comment an orphanage home in Vusimusi by the name of Tshepang. She said that, although the children are staying in a shack – which is not a proper place for them – the owner of the place is doing everything possible to keep them safe.
“As police officers we thank those victims who managed to expose the perpetrators out of the community, as it is difficult for some of them, because some were sexually abused by their relatives.”
“Over 60 children benefited from the presents. The event was sponsored by members of New Day Church, which is situated in Edenvale,” said Captain Sekgobela.
Captain Sekgobela said SAPS is still appealing to community members to report sexual offence cases whenever they encounter them in their families.
