A 27-year-old student was released after he was caught stealing textbooks from a library on Friday.
The business administration student stole two textbooks, Business and Office Administration and Public Relations, from Kempton Park Library at the civic centre.
He was found with the books after the detector machine at the entrance beeped as he tried leaving the library.
The staff members at the library stopped the young man, who is from the Eastern Cape, and called in officers from Zabalaza Security Services.
“When questioned about where he got the books, he denied stealing them and instead said he had borrowed them from a friend,” Zabalaza Security officers explained.
“When we called his friend, the friend told us he knew nothing about the books.”
The student eventually confessed to the crime after the Zabalaza team threatened to call the police.
“The young man pleaded for mercy and the library decided to let him go.”
Although the young man was pardoned, the library wanted this incident to serve as a lesson and stern warning to other potential book thieves.
