An investigation launched by Ivory Park SAPS into business robberies yielded results on Tuesday last week.
Officers arrested two suspects in connection with two separate incidents of business robbery in Ivory Park.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS Communication Officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, in one of the robberies three men posed as police officers before robbing a local tuckshop last week in Ivory Park Extension 2.
“The robbers allegedly gained entry into the premises by flashing a police appointment card at the unsuspecting shop attendant under the guise of checking trading licences. They took money. The police’s job was made easier after the victim managed to write down the registration number of the vehicle used by the suspects. Later a police patrol car in the cluster spotted the vehicle. The police followed the motor vehicle and eventually arrested a suspect, who is 31 years old,” said Capt Matimulane.
Capt Matimulane said that, in a separate business robbery, also on Saturday, three men burgled a businessman’s property. Items stolen included a large sum of cash, stock and the man’s vehicle.
“A manhunt was launched and early on Tuesday a suspect was arrested. The suspect, who lives not far from the scene of the robbery, was seen with the two other men, one of whom was armed. The search for the other accomplices is ongoing and the police are appealing to the public to come forward with information,” said Capt Matimulane.
