Visible policing pays off for police as more arrests are made

All the suspects will appear in court for their respective charges

VISIBLE policing from Kempton’s cops and metro police paid off as stolen cellphones were discovered at a food store, alleged drug dealers and a cellphone thief were arrested.

According to police spokesperson, Capt Jethro Mtshali, on Wednesday (February 22) sector police members received a tip off about a shop in West Street, alleged to be housing stolen cellphones.

“The police officers searched the shop. They discovered a number of cellphones, suspected to have been stolen, and arrested a 38-year-old suspect for possession of suspected stolen goods,” Mtshali confirmed.

On the same day a 24-year-old cellphone thief was arrested by metro police at corner Long and Monument roads.

The thief allegedly mugged a man who was walking along the street.

“Luckily the victim spotted a metro police vehicle on patrol, informed them of the incident and police gave chase and managed to arrest the suspect.”

He will appear in court for a robbery charge.

In another incident also on Wednesday about five more people, suspected to be either using or dealing in drugs, are off the streets.

This is after members of the crime prevention unit arrested the five suspects, at the Kempton rank on Pretoria Road, for being in possession of drugs.

The suspects, aged between 25 and 36, will appear in court for drug-related charges.
