Ekurhuleni North SAPS spokesperson Captain Lesiba Molokomme said the community around Rabie Ridge burned the suspect in the middle of Parliament Road, because they believed he had committed a murder on Saturday morning.
“A sector vehicle responded to the scene before the accused got burned, but police were overpowered by the crowd while trying to rescue him,” said Capt Molokomme.
“Back-up was called from other stations, Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) and Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD). When law enforcement tried to rescue the man, they were attacked with stones. Three police vehicles were damaged.”
