Men arrested after shooting bakery truck driver

Bakery robbers arrested in Tembisa.

Two men robbed and shot a bakery truck driver on Lubhebe Street at Isiziba section.

Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha said the 26-year-old and 40-year-old suspects were arrested on March 16 for armed robbery and attempted murder.

“It was alleged by a 37-year-old bakery truck’s crew [member] that on the day they were delivering bread around the shops in Tembisa.

“The driver went inside one of the shops. The crew [member] went to the back of the delivery truck to offload bread.

“When the driver came back to the truck, he was confronted by two men. They pushed him against the truck and one of them produced a firearm and shot the driver in the lower body. They searched him and took an undisclosed amount of money,” said Captain Ralidzhivha.

“A community member came across the two men at Emmangweni section. The community member was surprised to see a man in possession of a firearm. The firearm was publicly visible and anyone could see the man was carrying a firearm.”

“The community member called the police. SAPS immediately responded and went to Emmangweni section. Police found the two men walking the streets. Police confronted them and arrested the two men.”

Captain Ralidzhivha said the victim survived the shooting and will remain in hospital until he recovers.
