Unlicensed shabeens raided

The liquor was confiscated over a period of three months from people selling without liquor licenses.

The Ivory Park SAPS Station Commander, Brigadier David Ngcobo has, once more, warned illegal shebeen owners that they will continue to suffer immense financial losses as only licensed taverns are permitted to sell liquor.

This is subject to the regulations they are all supposed to be aware of.

Brig Ngcobo sent out this warning as his staff was destroying large quantities of liquor confiscated from unlicensed shebeens.

On March 14 the Ivory Park police destroyed an estimated 1 200 litres of liquor.

The liquor was confiscated over a period of three months from people selling without liquor licenses.

Brig Ngcobo said, “We have noticed that most of our contact crimes are as a result of the level of drunkenness prevalent in our area and that illegal tavern exacerbate our problem. We want licensed taverns that sell liquor in accordance with the terms and conditions attached.”

Some of these conditions include opening and closing at stipulated times and that they are not supposed to sell liquor to minors.
