A man (21) who allegedly raped his 15-year-old niece was one of four suspects arrested by Norkem Park SAPS over the weekend.
The man was arrested shortly after midnight on Sunday.
Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesman for the station, said the victim told her family that her uncle had sex with her in February without her consent.
On Friday, shortly before midnight, a metro police officer arrested an 18-year-old male suspect for attempted robbery on Mooifontein Road in Norkem Park.
“It is alleged by the victim that he was approached by the suspect, who asked him for money to buy bread. The complainant told the suspect he did not have any money. He further alleged the suspect took out a knife, demanding money by force.
“The victim ran towards the main road. The metro police officers came across the incident and managed to arrest the suspect for attempted robbery. The knife used to threaten the victim was recovered,” Molokomme added.
Also on Friday night, another suspect was arrested for robbery after he allegedly robbed a security officer at a company on Bergrivier Road in Chloorkop shortly before 11pm.
The victim alleged he was on duty when he was approached by three men who demanded the generator. He further said they told him not to tell anyone or else they would kill him.
“The suspects allowed the victim to move out of the guard room and when he returned, he found some car batteries and a generator valued at about R25 000 were missing. The police arrested one suspect aged 33,” Molokomme said.
A third suspect was arrested for robbery at Esselen Park ( Greenveld). It is alleged the victim was attacked by her brother (22) with a knife, that he threatened to kill her and robbed her of her cellphone. The sector vehicle attended to the scene and the suspect was arrested for robbery and intimidation.
Norkem Park SAPS also closed down two illegal shebeens in Greenveld on Friday night during a liquor operation led by the station’s liquor officer, W/O Ntsoane.
Each owner received a fine of R1 500 for selling liquor without a licence. Liquor valued at an estimated R2 000 was confiscated.
