Residents are in the dark about regular power outages

The third failure in the early hours of Friday, was resolved by 10am

SEVERAL Kempton Park suburbs were left in the dark three times last week.

Birchleigh, Glen Marais, Birchleigh North, Pomona, Norkem Park and Bredell have been impacted each time.

The first outage occurred on Sunday, March 26, causing some of the areas to be without electricity until the evening. The outage on the following Tuesday was resolved by lunchtime.

The third failure, in the early hours of Friday, was resolved by 10am.

According to Clr Gideon van Zyl, councillor for ward 15, the reason for the series of outages has still not been clarified by the electricity department.

“As member of the water, sewage and power oversight of the council, I am still in the dark regarding what the real reasons for these outages were,” he said.

“According to the electricity department, the outage on the Sunday was caused by a problem with the link from Eskom to the municipality. I have not received any further information from the department regarding the other two.”

Van Zyl says he has discussed the issue with the DA shadow MMC for water, sewage and power, Clr Derek Thomson, and the concerns regarding the repeated outages and lack of communication are being escalated.
