EKURHULENI employees will now be paid equally for work of equal value.
Mayor Masina announced the new salary scale for the City of Ekurhuleni during a mass meeting with the metro’s employees at Boksburg Stadium on Wednesday.
This follows approval by council of the Ekurhuleni classic scale.

The approval of the new salary scale means that employees will finally be on a single salary structure, which affirms “equal pay for work of equal value”.
Historically, the city was divided into 11 separate towns which in turn used their own different salary scales. This created inequality and workers not being remunerated the same in accordance with their work contribution.
“This historical decision by council gives each and every worker a competitive edge in the labour market,” Masina said addressing thousands of employees.
“We must attract and retain skills in our city and this is a competitive point of departure.”
This is in line with attempts by the metro’s new administration to achieve a one-city identity.
Employees of Ekurhuleni view this is a victory for not only them but the city. From today (Thursday April 6) the finance team, led by the city manager, Dr Imogen Mashazi, will work vigorously towards the seamless implementation of the approved decision.
