The Ivory Park SAPS is on the lookout for three men who, in the early hours of Tuesday last week, shot and injured three people in Tswelopele.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the same group had just robbed a Somali-owned spaza shop nearby.
“Two of the people were part of a group of six that was coming from church while the third victim was sleeping in his shack when he was hit by a bullet. During a community meeting that was organised by the management of the police station, the station commander of Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, appealed to the community to come forward with any information that may assist in arresting the perpetrators of these two crime incidents,” said Captain Matimulane.
Capt Matimulane explained that during the robbery at the shop, the three armed suspects gained entry by breaking the wall, then assaulted the shopkeeper and took an undisclosed amount of cash and airtime vouchers.
“It so happened that as they were coming out of the shop, a pastor and five members of his congregation were coming from their prayer session when they were confronted with a hail of bullets. Two congregants – including the pastor himself – were shot, while the third victim was hit while sleeping in his shack. The three victims were taken to hospital for treatment,” added Capt Matimulane.
