THREE suspected burglars were arrested on Thursday morning after they were involved in an accident while trying to flee from police.
A high speed chased ensued on the P91, where the suspects made a U-turn and sped off again in the direction they were coming from. They collided with a motorist and fled on foot.
With the help of the community the three men, hiding in long grass, were arrested.
Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesman for Norkem Park SAPS, said police received a complaint of a housebreaking on Paradysvink Street in Birch Acres at around 11am.

When a sector vehicle arrived at the scene, officers spotted two cars, a white Polo and black VW GTi, leaving the scene at high speed.
“A lookout for both cars was sent out to police vehicles and within ten minutes the black GTI was spotted along the P91. A chase started towards Greenstone Mall,” Molokomme said.
At the traffic light after the Gautrain bridge opposite Esther Park, the suspects made a U-turn and the chase continued with more backup coming from neighbouring stations.
Molokomme said at the intersection of Zuurfontein Road and Ossewa Street in Chloorkop the suspects’ car collided with another motorist.
“The driver of the fleeing car lost control of the vehicle and went off the road. Three suspects got out of the car and hid in the long grass. Community members pointed out to the police were the suspects hid and they were arrested,” Molokomme explained.
Upon searching the car, officers recovered a suspected stolen PlayStation. The getaway car was also fitted with two sets of registration plates. The top ones were false.
The white Polo disappeared. Further investigations on the street where the suspects allegedly committed the crime, it was found that another house on the same street had been broken into. At one house nothing was taken and at the other the PlayStation and two plasma televisions. Only the PlayStation was recovered.
Anyone who has information about the remaining suspects and their white Polo can contact Norkem Park SAPS on 011-391-1814/5 or 086-001-0111.
The arrested suspects, aged 30, 31 and 40, will face charges of housebreaking and theft, possession of suspected stolen property, reckless and negligent driving and damage to property.
