Kids Festival is back in August

Parents can already enter their children for the photo competition

MES (Mould Empower Serve) in Kempton Park will hold its annual Kids Festival on August 26 at Dries Niemandt Recreation Park.

It forms a key part of the organisation’s annual fundraising initiatives. The event will include various artists performing on the day, rides and entertainment for the children, flea market and food stalls.

According to the branch manager, Duane Edwards, the inner-city of Kempton Park faces challenges with unemployment, hunger, homelessness, drugs and uneducated children on a daily basis.

MES, as a national not-for-profit organisation, has established well-structured programmes over the years to assist in addressing these challenges.

However, sustainable funds are necessary to continue with the various community development programmes.

“We, therefore, want to invite each and everyone in the community to join us in August. Your support will assist us to bring hope to the homeless, unemployed and underprivileged,” says Edwards.

An important part of the festival’s programme is the popular baby and toddler competition. Parents can already enter their children in one of the following three categories, nought to six months, six to 12 months and three to six years. The entry fee is R45. The winners of each category will be announced at the festival.

Photos will be taken prior to the festival at various pre-schools or an appointment can be made directly with Mike McLaughlin from Photomac Photography (071 686 2168) or mike@photomac.co.za.

An A5 size photo is included in the entry fee and five photos, randomly chosen, will be published in Kempton Express on a regular basis between June and August.

The organisation has also recently launched a singing competition, in partnership with Kempton Express.

The competition presents the ideal opportunity for individuals, 16 years and older, who would like to showcase their singing talent.

Audition nights will be held on May 8 and August 7. The semi-final will be on August 14, with the final on August 26 at the Kids Festival. Exciting prizes are up for grabs in the final round.

For more information about the singing competition and to receive an entry form, email: kemptontalent@mes.org.za or phone 011 024 4580. The entry fee is only R50.

Organisations are welcome to support MES with general donations towards the event’s expenses. Various marketing opportunities exist and 18 A certificates and B-BBEE documentation can be provided.

Edwards concludes: “Over the next few months we will regularly communicate with the Kempton community about the planned activities for the day. We are really looking forward to a fun-filled programme in support of change in the heart of the city, ensuring people live independent sustainable and meaningful lives.”
