Yummy Easter for child welfare kids
Director of child welfare, Makha Thusi, thanked Norkem Primary and Crossfit for “putting a smile on the children’s faces
CHILDREN from various shelters in Kempton Park enjoyed hundreds of yummy chocolate treats over the Easter weekend.
The children at the foster care, child and youth centres were also spoilt with goodie bags and toys on April 11.
Norkem Park Primary donated 150 Easter egg packs to Kempton Park Child Welfare. The society then distributed these to the children at Rising Hope Centre in Van Riebeeck Park, Step Ahead Creche in Kempton, Erasmus Informal Settlement in Bredell as well as the Care Bear Gauteng and Touch of Hope centres in Boksburg.
The child and youth care centres and informal settlements are some of the temporary alternative care facilities where children placed and monitored by child welfare reside.
To top this off, 50 foster children and needy families from around Kempton and Erasmus Informal Settlement were surprised with goodie bags and toys from Crossfit, Kempton Park on April 13 2017.
The foster parents expressed their gratitude towards this gesture.
The director of child welfare, Makha Thusi, thanked Norkem Primary and the staff members from Crossfit for “putting a smile on the children’s faces through their donations of the generous and wonderful treats”.
“Not all children, especially from disadvantaged backgrounds, are able to enjoy such luxurious treats. We sincerely appreciate all donations received. No matter how small one may think, it is often a huge gesture to someone else,” Thusi said.
