A house robber who decided to steal a BMX bicycle and use it as a “getaway car” was caught out by a private security officer.
The robber (31) was spotted by an ADT officer in Chloorkop just after tying up a domestic worker (38) and robbing a house in Birch Ares on April 20.
According to Norkem police spokesperson Capt Lesibana Molokomme, the man entered a house on Katakoeroe Street at about 11am and found a domestic worker doing the washing in the bathroom.

“The suspect then pointed a firearm at her and instructed her to lie down. He then tied her hands and feet,” Molokomme explained.
A second suspect then came into the house and together they raided the whole house, stealing cash, a plasma TV, jewellery, cell phones, clothes and a BMX bicycle.
Some hours after the robbers had left, the victim managed to untie herself and get help from a neighbour to call her employer and the police
“Upon arrival of the police the victim described the items that had been taken. The sector vehicle immediately went searching for the suspects around the area.”
Luckily, a security officer from ADT had spotted a suspicious person riding a BMX bicycle along Nuwejaarsvoel Avenue, Chloorkop, which had been taken from the scene of crime.
The security officer informed the police about the suspect and he was arrested.
The suspect will face charges of possession of stolen property and house robbery in court soon.
