Security at Festival Mall foiled an armed robbery at the the centre on Tuesday morning.
Lee-Anne Leathley, marketing manager at Festival Mall, said: “Shortly before 9am, four armed suspects followed a couple entering the mall at entrance 2. Two of the armed suspects fired warning shots and robbed the victims of two bags containing cash.
This incident followed hot on the heels of an armed robbery at a jewellery store in the centre on April 24.

Festival Mall’s security pursued the perpetrators and managed to recover one bag of cash, apprehend two suspects, the getaway vehicle [a white Hyundai i120], a firearm, three cellphones and a set of Volkswagen car keys. A second firearm was found abandoned in a trolley.
“Fortunately the victims did not sustain any injuries and received trauma counselling promptly after the incident,” Leathley said.
The police, together with Festival Mall centre management, are working closely to apprehend the remaining perpetrators.
