It is believed the suspects left the scene with three bags containing new cellphones

A woman has been left traumatised after she walked into an armed robbery in progress in Ackermans at Brentwood Park Mall on Thursday morning at about 11am.

The shopper, who lives in Brentwood Park, left her young daughter with her brother in the car while she popped into the retailer.

The door was half open when she entered Ackermans, she said.

“As I pushed the door open, I saw two armed men on my left holding up two of the staff members,” said the woman, who did not want to be named.

Within seconds, another armed robber – standing to the right of her – pulled her arm. The man went through her purse and pockets but found no valuables.

She said she was able to run out of the store soon afterwards, as she was not far from the door.

“I thought I was dreaming,” she said, explaining that the ordeal happened in a flash. “I am in shock and have not stopped crying or shaking.”

Brentwood Park Mall’s security director confirmed the incident.

Capt Lesibane Molokomme, standby cluster spokesman for Ekurhuleni North SAPS, confirmed the robbery.

He said five suspects armed with firearms entered the business and held staff at gunpoint. They demanded cellphones. The staff was forced to open storeroom.

“It is believed the suspects left the scene with three bags containing new cellphones of which the value was unknown. At this stage police are still gathering information and no arrests have been made.
