About an hour ago, Traffic SA had tweeted “Road opening is imminent”.
Traffic had been a nightmare this morning and again this afternoon. Motorists said they spent up to three hours on the road to reach their destinations via alternative routes.
This caused a ripple effect with these routes, including the R25 and R23, being congested too.
The truck driver is in a stable condition in hospital.
