Another rhino horn bust at OR Tambo

The discovery was made when customs officials subjected a box for scanning.

SARS customs officials intercepted a consignment of rhino horn, worth R1,7 million, at OR Tambo International Airport, on Monday (May 22).

This bust follows the interception of seven kilograms of rhino horn at the airport on May 18.

The discovery was made when customs officials scanned a box and detected images consistent with rhino horn. Nine rhino horns, cut into different sizes and weighing 13,2 kilograms, were found. The consignment was en-route to Hong Kong.

The horns have been handed over to the SAPS and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (HAWKS) for further investigation.
