Men take a stand to collect sanitary pads

The youth embarked on a drive to raise 67 000 sanitary pads over 67 days for needy girls in Tembisa.

The youth have embarked on a drive to collect 67 000 sanitary pads over 67 days for needy girls in Tembisa.

The ambassador for the project, Lwazi Mongezi Mchunu, said the initiative is a Nelson Mandela Day one, and the collection of pads started on May 12.

“That is exactly 67 days before Nelson Mandela Day, which is commemorated annually on July 18.

At the back are Katlego Mashego, Fortune Nkosi and Lwazi Mchunu. In the middle are Shaun Mcube, Brendon Mcube and Sphiwe Mhlanga. In front are Sinethemba Zweni and Kevin Malema.

“The sanitary pads will be distributed to 67 institutions that are in need of sanitary pads,” said Mchunu.

He said the institutions will include women and child shelters, women’s prisons and schools.

Mchunu said each institution will receive a thousand packs of the sanitary pads.

He said people can donate the pads at any of their collection stations set up around Gauteng.

“There are two collection stations in Tembisa Kaalfontein/Ebony Clinic and Sangweni Clinic.

“The community can buy the sanitary pads and drop them off at the nearest collection station,” said Mchunu.

He said they are also willing to collect them from donors’ houses and they can be contacted via a Whatsapp message to 061 667 4215, Twitter: @padsdriveza or padsdriveza@gmail.com.

The drive is organised by The Browns Event and project management.
