Watch: Panorama learners learn baking skills at local store
Learners from the local special education school worked wonders in the bakery of the Van Riebeeck Park Stop & Go KWIKSPAR.
Five learners from Kempton Panorama School worked wonders at the Van Riebeeck Park Stop & Go QUICKSPAR bakery.
They enjoyed rewarding baking and teamwork sessions given by bakery manager Barendt Roodt and store manager Quintin Erasmus on May 31.
This is part of the numerous Spar Value programmes the store is involved in to uplift its community and help add value to the lives of Kempton Park residents.
“We are very excited about this programme because it helps these learners with skills they can use in future and even presently when they are at home. This way we are able to contribute to the building of our community and we add value to people’s lives,“ said Roodt.
This programme has been going since 2016 and staff members were very proud to have Panorama learners working with them because they will now have Stop & Go QUICKSPAR Van Riebeeck on their resume.

The store has been part of Kempton Park for decades and has always been involved in various community outreach programmes and continues to have charity boxes for customers to put in their receipts to support charity organisations. A portion of the money spent is then donated to that charity by the store.

Roodt explained, “We all stopped a bit to focus on training these youngsters and we will be putting in more than enough to ensure they learn as much as they can. They have shown great interest and some of the learners who were present in our previous sessions went home and tried out the techniques and recipes they learnt here.”
Erasmus and Roodt would also like to thank the owners of the store Kallie Kruger and Leon Kruger for allowing and supporting this initiative.
