Edleen resident to be buried after losing cancer battle

Jack Segae is survived by his wife, four children and grandson

RESIDENTS of Edleen will lay to rest on Saturday a popular father and grandfather who was known among fellow Kemptonians as a man who loved God and helped underprivileged children gain tertiary qualifications.

Jack Segae (44) will be laid to rest at the Zuurfontein Cemetery on June 10 after losing his battle with colon cancer on May 31 at the Wits University Donald Gordon Medical Centre.

Jack Segae inspired young people to work even harder to achieve their dreams.

Segae was diagnosed with the illness in 2012 but continued to work for Eskom until he took early retirement and joined the Recycling and Economic Development Initiative of SA (REDISA), where he could do less demanding work.

He was very well known in Kempton Park as he lived for a few years in Birch Acres and then relocated to Edleen where he lived for over 20 years with his wife, three daughters (25, 17 and 12), a son (10) and a grandson (5).

“Jack was a very loving man who did so much to improve the lives of a lot of underprivileged children. He loved helping other people selflessly. His own daughter does not have a degree but he pushed to help other people’s children to go to tertiary and get an education. We know a lot of people will be at his funeral because he was a people’s person,” said his wife Tozi Segae.

Kemptonians are welcome to attend his funeral and convene at his farmhouse for the ceremony at 237 Orchards Road, Pomona.
