Five dancers are on their way to Europe

The dancers qualified to attend the IDO World Championships in the Czech Republic and the Freestyle World Championships in the UK

FIVE dancers, three of them from Kempton’s Dynamic Dance Studios are jetting off to Europe to participate in two global competitions.

The dance school, with branches in Kempton Park, Boksburg and Benoni, had dancers qualify to attend the IDO World Championships in Chomotuv, Czech Republic and the Freestyle World Championships in Blackpool, United Kingdom.

Both competitions will be held on June 21-24 and June 26 – 27 respectively.

Sanchia Lamprecht, Roche Barnard and Alea Samuel (all Kempton residents) as well as Werner Humpel and Siobhan Laubscher, will be competing in the Disco, Disco Duos, Freestyle and Slow Dance genres.

They are trained by Linda Dedekind and Mary-Anne Janse van Vuuren, who will be accompanying them. Also traveling with the five will be the rest of Team SA.

In order to qualify as part of the South African dance team, they’ve had to dance in a series of qualifiers under the umbrella of the South African Dance Teachers Association (SADTA).

Lamprecht (11) is a Grade 6 learner and has been dancing since the age of two. She attended the World Championships once before in 2016, when she was 10-years-old. She is currently busy with her Silver Bar medal. She qualified in all dance genres which include Slow Dance, Freestyle, Disco and Disco Duos (where she partners Alea Samuel). They qualified as the number 1 couple in South Africa in the 12 – 15 age group.

Alea Samuel is a nine-year-old Grade 4 learner and is one of the youngest members of the South African dance team to attend the World Championships this year. Samuel has been dancing since the age of two and reached championship level in all her dance genres at the age of eight. She is currently busy with her Pre-bronze medal. She qualified in all her dance genres which include Slow Dance, Freestyle, Disco and Disco Duos (partnered by Sanchia Lamprecht).

Twelve-year-old Barnard has also been dancing since the age of two. She started competing when she was six years old and by 11 had reached championship level. The Grade 7 learner is currently busy with her Bronze Bar medal. She qualified in both Slow Dance and Freestyle.

Werner Humpel who has been dancing for 12 years, has been teaching for seven years. Humpel is a member of the Dynamic team, and has an Associate SADTA level qualification as well as a diploma in Dance Mouse. Although he turned professional in Slow Dance and Freestyle in 2013, he still competes in World Disco Championships and is currently ranked number 1 in Disco in the country. He has competed numerous times in world championships as well.

Siobhan Laubscher is an 18-year-old dancer who is a first year university student at the University of Pretoria where she is studying sports science. She started dancing at the age of eight and has attended four world championships already. She has again qualified in Slow Dance, Freestyle and Disco and is currently busy with her Gold Scroll medal.
