Reach Academy and Pitt Boxes help Tembisa pre-school
The support programme applies to all learners preparing to go into Grade One.
THE Reach Academy in Highveld Road handed over a pre-school support programme to Kgalitso Daycare in Tembisa as part of an outreach programme by Pitt Boxes (People in Troubled Times).
Norma Veldsman, director and founder of Pitt Boxes, worked in collaboration with Reach Academy, (a tutor centre that provides quality tutoring to all ages), which put together the support programme to ensure more access to proper education for teachers and learners.
“I met the principal of Kgalitso Daycare, Priscilla Monyela, in our charity shop and when I heard about the support programme that Reach wanted to hand over to a local school, Priscilla’s school was the first that came to mind,” said Veldsman.
The programme consists of interesting activity sheets, a short lesson preparation for the teachers and extra information and activities that he/she needs to ensure that the learners are equipped for their formative years in the foundation phase. It applies to all learners preparing to go into Grade One.
“We chose this particular school as we believe every child has the right to education and the best education they can get. This school really needs a lot of help and we are willing to be there to support them. If you start teaching learners from a young age they will receive all the necessary knowledge for when they are older and they will be on the right path. We believe that this support programme will add to that and make their lives easier,” said centre manager Karen de Klerk.
Reach Academy challenges other tutor centres in the area to get involved and assist a pre-school near them.
“If there are other pre-schools who would like to have access to this support programme, kindly contact us and we will be more than happy to assist your children free of charge,” said de Klerk.
