Tummies full, furry bodies kept warm this winter at SPCA after donations

The community collected over 100 blankets, throws and towels as well as pet food for the cats and dogs

TWO communities, Norkem Park and Birchleigh North, collectively donated over 100 blankets, throws and towels to keep the animals warm at Kempton Park SPCA.

They also collected and donated many bags of cat and dog food.

The initiative was launched after an article in EXPRESS about donations needed for the animal shelter.

“After reading the article in Kempton Express dated May 25, Norkem Park and Birchleigh North residents decided to do a collection for the SPCA,” David and Dorothy Davel explained.

“We all sent out messages on our various WhatsApp groups asking for donations of blankets, jackets and other necessities.”

The Davels, Marthie Wilson of Norkem and Belinda Jonker of Birchleigh North and her two daughters, collected the donations from residents and had some of them delivered to their homes.

The handover was made on Friday at the SPCA.

“We just want to send a very special thank you to the two communities for all their wonderful and very generous contributions. This just shows how communities stand together during times of need.”
