On June 9, staff members of the Ivory Park SAPS took time off from their work schedules to bid one of their longest serving members, retiring Captain Knox Magoai, farewell.

Ntate Magoai, as he was fondly called by his colleagues at the police station, worked at the Ivory Park SAPS for 19 years of his 37 years of police service.

He was a popular detective and his junior colleagues feel poorer due to his absence and remained grateful for his mentorship and the wealth of experience he shared with them.

The 60-year old Magoai joined the SAPS in 1981 and had steadily risen through the ranks.
Mogoai attributed his staying power to discipline, cordial work relationships with colleagues and the ever present support from his wife and four daughters.

The acting station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Colonel Baba Mpotoane, used the session to lament the crime rate in Ivory Park and went on to encourage the police in Ivory Park to emulate Magoai’s example.

“We want more detectives of Magoai’s calibre to increase the conviction rate in our area,” said Colonel Mpotoane.

He said the SAPS remained grateful to the retired policeman’s family for allowing him to spend many nights on standby performing operations and for giving them moral support.
