WATCH: National Assembly Speaker Mbete visits Kempton on Youth Day

The day started with a march around the Kempton park CBD

NATIONAL Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete visited Lion Stars Youth Development and Warrior Angels of Light as they celebrated Youth Day at Sir Pierre van Ryneveld High School on June 16.

The event was organised to teach young people to unite against any form of hate and discrimination and to also celebrate the people who sacrificed their lives in 1976 in the struggle for freedom and equality.

The day started with a march around the Kempton park CBD, followed by an awareness programme, motivational talks, entertainment and later sporting activities.

CEO of Lion Stars Youth Development Amanda Odoemelan said she was grateful that the event was able to educate youngsters about the importance of unity to help put a stop to xenophobia, racism and the abuse of women and children in South Africa and abroad.

Mbete said, “As young people you are the future of this nation and it will be up to you to lead this country forward in a positive way and address all the current and future challenges faced by this country. I want to thank you very much for having the conscience to come here today and say I want to be counted with the youths that care abut this country. I wish you blessings in your future and always remember that you are very important.”

NATIONAL Assembly Speaker, Baleka Mebete encourages young people to unite, love each other and respect their parents.

Member of Lion Stars Jonathan Kabasele said, “We would like to thank God for making this event possible and MP Honourable Baleka Mbete, EMPD, SAPS, LDAC chairperson Thabo Vilakazi, John Wesley Children Home for Girls, St George’s Child and Youth Care Centre, View Tigers FC, local CPF, Congolese and Ghanaian communities of Kempton Park, Ekeson Traders and Project, DJ Brighton Matavila and all the community members who attended.”
